Staying Safe During Severe Weather
The safety of our members and staff is our top priority. Our management team actively monitors weather conditions when severe weather is expected during program hours. Updates will be shared with families throughout the day, if needed.
ICE/SNOW: In the event of winter weather, the following procedures will apply:
-
School Closures or Early Dismissals: If the school district in which a Club site is located cancels or releases classes early due to weather, the Club will also be closed. Otherwise, the Club will remain open on its regular schedule unless an announcement is made.
-
Hazardous Road Conditions: If school is in session but BGCSCK determines that road conditions are unsafe for bus transportation, Clubs may remain open, but parents/guardians will be responsible for transporting their child to the Club. BGCSCK will notify the school of this decision and will also communicate directly with families via email and/or text message through MyClubHub.
-
During Club Hours: If severe weather develops during program hours, the site may decide to close early. If this occurs, parents/guardians will be contacted directly and are expected to pick up their child within one hour of being notified.
TORNADO: If a tornado warning is issued for our community during program hours, the following procedures will be in place:
-
During program hours (in the building): All members and staff will immediately move to designated shelter areas. At this time, no one will be permitted to enter the building. If parents/guardians are already in the lobby when a warning is issued, they will be encouraged to join their child in the tornado shelter. Parents/guardians may also choose to sign out their child and leave, though sheltering in place is strongly encouraged for safety.
-
During transportation to the Club (on buses): If a tornado warning is issued while members are riding a Boys & Girls Club bus, drivers will be directed to take shelter at the nearest elementary school. Other non-school locations may be used if necessary and appropriate to ensure safety.
These procedures ensure that families are kept informed and that every effort is made to keep our members safe during inclement weather.
